Classroom Streaming
The University of Connecticut Libraries is now offering a streaming video service to the campus community. The primary scope of the service is to support classroom instruction through on demand streaming of commercially available productions, such as DVD's of films and documentaries currently on Reserve, and UConn produced content for which we own the copyright, such as the Litchfield County Writers Project or footage in the Dodd Center of sporting events. Videos of class lectures may be more suited to podcasting and are not within the scope of this service.
The scope and features of the service are:
• The Library will stream material for which we can obtain streaming rights or material whose copyright is owned by UConn. The library will negotiate rights for you, if needed.
• The Library can also stream onetime events but priority is given to on demand streaming in support of classroom instruction.
• Streams are ordinarily designed for viewing on a personal computer, but we can prepare streams for large screen presentation.
• The library may be able to help pay for streaming rights, especially if the videos will be used by more than one class.
• Our ability to provide any given stream is based on available resources (disk space, staff time) and what other videos are in the queue. Lots of advance notice is appreciated.
• Videos that need to be password protected will be presented through the Library's electronic course reserves system.
