    Founded in 1883, the Modern Language Association of America provides opportunities for its members to share their scholarly findings and teaching experiences with colleagues and to discuss trends in the academy.

Welcome to my guide. This online guide will help you to find materials such as books, journal articles, and films that are necessary for your studies in Spanish.You can also contact me with your questions when working on your research papers.

This is a bilingual guide, so you will find English and Spanish descriptions of different resources depending if they were created in the United States, Spain or Latin America.

  • El Instituto: Institute of Latina/o, Caribbean and Latin American Studies
    On July 1, 2012 the University of Connecticut inaugurated El Instituto: Institute of Latina/o, Caribbean and Latin American Studies, a new research institute in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The institute is a merger and revision of all the constituent elements of the former Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (est. 1974) and the former Institute of Puerto Rican and Latino Studies (est. 1994).

Where to practice Spanish?

The library doesn't offer language programs such as Rosetta Stone but we can refer you to some free online services or paid ones for your consideration. Also, consider visiting your local public library (near Storrs check the Mansfield Public Library or the WIllimantic Public Library) since sometimes they do offer language programs online for public library cardholder.

    For those students taking languages courses at UConn, the lab offers many software, video and tutorials to support language learning, including Spanish.
  • Learn Spanish
    Free site to learn and practice Spanish.
  • Livemocha
    Online language community. Learn a language and connect with native speakers for instructive help. This is a commercial site and you need to sign in to get access to the many lessons available. Some lessons are free and other you need to pay for them. Good social media/online community to practice with native speakers.
