After this session you will: 

Find a research topic for your assignment

  • Refine a research topic by asking the right research questions
  • Develop effective search strategies
  • Be familiar with the Libraries' online catalog
  • Be able to use general academic databases for locating journal articles
  • Distinguish between scholarly and popular articles
  • Understand citations (e.g., books, articles, and book chapters) and knowing how to create in various styles
  • Evaluate web pages and identify those most relevant for a topic
  • Be able to access the library from home using VPN or the Proxy
  • Understand various ways to request books, articles, and videos from other libraries

NOTE:
Before you access the Libraries' Homepage, log into the Virtual Private Network (VPN).  This will allow you to view online books found in HOMER and the full text articles from our many databases.  You will need to log in with your netID and password.  If you do not know your netID go to NetID.uconn.edu
