This is your first formal session on doing academic library research.  After this session you will: 


Find a research topic for your assignment

  • Develop effective search strategies
  • Be familiar with the Libraries' online catalog
  • Be able to use general academic databases for locating journal articles
  • Distinguish between scholarly and popular articles
  • Understand citations (e.g., books, articles, and book chapters) and knowing how to create in various styles
  • Evaluate web pages and identify those most relevant for a topic
  • Be able to access the library from home using NetID
  • Understand various ways to request books, articles, and videos from other libraries
